IR Camera

The IR camera in digital form like CCTV and other security monitoring offers great surveillance with infrared technology.

An IR camera can be a valuable item for a very wide variety of different uses.  The applications are practically endless, and you would be surprised at the versatility that they offer.  Whether you’re planning on home surveillance, scientific studies, or just a cool device to impress your friends with, infra red technology will have you covered.  The main thing will be thinking about what type of IR camera works for you in terms of the uses you have planned, as well as the budget that you have available.

Infra red technology is so useful because of it’s ability to capture light and height that the eye cannot see.  This is why they are valuable as surveillance equipment.  Within a limited range, and IR camera can capture all of the motion and activity in any given area, allowing you to see things that the naked eye just can’t.  They can detect heat as well as light signatures, so hiding practically isn’t an option, giving you the edge when you’re trying to locate someone or spot an intruder.

There are two basic settings for IR camera technology, either targeting in on heat signatures, or picking up extremely low level light.  The best type for you will depend upon the applications that you have planned.  For surveillance technology, you can’t beat an IR camera that’s optimized to pick up low level light sources.  This way you can monitor the area all around your property, and spot someone entering the premises, no matter how dark it may be outside.  For heat signatures you’ll what a different type of infra red, and this is best served for scientific experiments.  Usually these screens are color coded for heat levels, so they aren’t as good for use as surveillance.

You’ll also need to specifically target the range that any IR camera has.  Because of the unique way in which they capture images, most cameras have a fairly limited range of about 50ft.  This doesn’t enable you to see very much, but it will allow you to see clearly no matter how dark the surrounding area may be.  For surveillance purposes on large properties you’ll want the more expensive 100ft limit camera.  Or even for the utmost in surveillance security, you can even find cameras that will stretch all the way to 300ft, so that you can really see around the property.  However, camera costs will expand dramatically depending upon the amount of visibility they provide.

When you’re looking to buy an IR camera, it’s important to realize that you’re going to have to pay a lot to get a lot from your equipment.  This means for an ordinary security camera, you’ll have to pay in the area of $500 at minimum.  But for a really deluxe model capable of distances of up to 300ft, you’ll be looking to pay well into the thousands.  You can find IR camera options at any store that features high tech equipment.  Usually your best options are going to be online so that you can get quality cameras without having to overpay.  Some of the best sites include Provantage.com and Amazon.com.  You can find any type of camera you need at either.
